Hull – a short walk with a camera…

Last Wednesday I took a trip over to Hull for a meeting and, later, a networking event. Between the two, however, I had a bit of time to have a wander around the city with my camera. I say ‘around the city’ when, in reality, I only had time to walk from the car park down to the estuary and back. Anyway, it was enough time for me to go have a look at my intended subject; Scale Lane Swing Bridge. After finding a few choice compositions there I continued down to The Deep. Yes, I know it’s probably the most photographed building in Hull, but I had yet to join in. And besides, I was more taken with the Centre for Digital Innovation (or C4DI) opposite. It’s nice to see such an industrial location like Hull getting an injection of more modern architecture.   I like the contrast between the two building details here. It seem the C4DI took it’s design cues from The Deep…   Once it was time to head back I made my way over to the Lightstream Stadium (the home of Hull Kingston Rovers) for the latest meet up of The Property Club. Lawrence Batley Theatre

Client: Lawrence Batley Theatre Brief: The marketing department of the theatre required new, up-to-date images of the theatre building and it’s interior. This included the performance spaces, meeting rooms and social areas.

Corfu…

Kelly and I were recently lucky enough to have a week’s break in Corfu – our first trip abroad since our honeymoon six years ago! – so I thought I’d share a couple of the snaps I took which highlight the architectural differences between the UK and Corfu. I won’t waffle on about them – just browse and enjoy…                         And it wouldn’t be Greece without a picture of a cute kitten…

A Little Bit of Leeds

Every now and again I like to have a wander around a town/city I know and take photos of the buildings. More often than not I’ll find something new I haven’t spotted before, so it’s always a worthwhile endeavour.   The lady in the background seems envious of Joseph Priestley’s prime position in City Square… These last two images are more about texture and shape than anything else…

Skipbridge Farm Cottages

Client: Skipbridge Farm Cottages Brief: To photograph a couple of styled holiday cottages and a luxury ‘shepherd’s hut’ for internet/social marketing purposes.

A Little Bit of Dublin

I thought I’d share a handful of images I shot in Dublin, mainly around the Samuel Beckett Bridge on the river front…   I can’t decide if I prefer this image in colour… … or black and white. Aviva Stadium…

Greenhead Park Bowling Pavilion

I recently decided to have a look at some architecture close to home – namely the Bowling Pavilion at Greenhead Park in Huddersfield. The Bowling Pavilion was designed by architect Derrie O’Sullivan and is a simple, elegant design partially sunken into the surrounding landscape. The building also features external wooden cladding and a living sedum roof to further help blend into it’s surroundings. It’s completion in October 2012 marked the completion of a £5.4m regeneration of Greenhead Park.   I particularly like the way that different levels of elemental exposure have produced varying colours within the wooden facia…
