Lawrence Batley Theatre

Client: Lawrence Batley Theatre Brief: The marketing department of the theatre required new, up-to-date images of the theatre building and it’s interior. This included the performance spaces, meeting rooms and social areas.

PR Portraits – Katie Sweep

You might not realise, but I also shoot PR headshots/portraits for businesses. Here are a handful of images from a recent shoot with Katie Wiggins, owner of Katie Sweep, a chimney and flu cleaning service based near York…

Corfu…

Kelly and I were recently lucky enough to have a week’s break in Corfu – our first trip abroad since our honeymoon six years ago! – so I thought I’d share a couple of the snaps I took which highlight the architectural differences between the UK and Corfu. I won’t waffle on about them – just browse and enjoy…                         And it wouldn’t be Greece without a picture of a cute kitten…

A bit of history…

I thought I’d share with you a little part of what brought me to my love of architecture and design. Whilst studying at photography at Huddersfield University I found myself drawn to the urban environment and it’s structures and patterns. I would find shapes and lines within the blank (and often bleak) concrete landscape before me. I’d often go wandering around the town with my trusty Rollei SLX medium format film camera (that’s right, I learned on film!) looking for new vistas and viewpoints in the most mundane locations…   It was this ‘urban exploration’ that guided my choice of subject for one of my final year projects at university. Living in the North of England you soon notice the abundance of old mill buildings, left over from the area’s prosperous industrial history. During my study I also noticed just how many of these old buildings were being rejuvenated for different purposes, like retail outlets or swanky apartments. The result was a project to study the juxtaposition between the outside history and inside re-use of these old buildings…   The penthouse apartment of the Centaur building in Leeds:   Dean Clough art gallery in Halifax:   Priest Royd Iron Works […]

North Light Cafe

Client: North Light Cafe Brief: With the cafe now under new management, the cafe has recently undergone a major facelift. As a result the new management required fresh images of the space for use their new website and social media. In addition, they requested some photos of some of the fresh food and barista coffee on offer.   A few days later the cafe had it’s official (re)launch event, of which I shot some more images…

Thistledown House B&B

Client: Thistledown House B&B Brief: Lesley & Eric – the B&B owners – decided that their existing website photography was not doing justice to the quality of the facilities on offer. A fresh eye and professional finish was called upon to boost the quality of their marketing images.   Luckily the rain gave way to some blue sky by the afternoon, allowing me to get some exterior shots… This rather handsome chap is Ted. I was asked to take his photo so that visitors would know there’s a dog on site!

A Little Bit of Leeds

Every now and again I like to have a wander around a town/city I know and take photos of the buildings. More often than not I’ll find something new I haven’t spotted before, so it’s always a worthwhile endeavour.   The lady in the background seems envious of Joseph Priestley’s prime position in City Square… These last two images are more about texture and shape than anything else…
